Bury Me, My Love tells the poignant story of Nour, a Syrian refugee, and her husband Majd, as Nour embarks on a perilous journey to find safety in Europe.
Bury Me, My Love: A Journey of Hope
This game is not just a narrative; it is an immersive Text Messaging Adventure that allows players to step into the shoes of Nour, a Syrian migrant trying to navigate her way to Europe. Throughout her journey, Nour communicates with her husband Majd, who remains in Syria, through a messaging app. Majd offers advice and support, striving to ensure her safe arrival.
The phrase “Bury me, my love” is a traditional Syrian farewell, roughly translating to, “Take care, don’t even think about dying before I do.” This expression takes on profound significance as Majd utters it to Nour, encapsulating the gravity of her journey.
This game is a co-production by ARTE, the European cultural network, in collaboration with The Pixel Hunt and Figs.
A Game in an Instant Messaging App
As Majd, players can communicate with Nour, following her journey as if they were chatting in a messenger app. The interaction includes exchanging texts, emojis, pictures, selfies, and relevant links.
Multiple Narrative Routes to Discover
Players can explore various narrative paths by reading instant messages and selecting response options. These choices help Nour navigate the challenges she faces. With the ability to visit 50 different locations and reach 19 potential endings, the impact of player decisions is significant, leading to widely divergent outcomes.
Bury Me, My Love is a reality-inspired game, drawing directly from real-world events. The concept originated from an article by Le Monde journalist Lucie Soullier, which tells the story of Dana, a young Syrian woman who fled her home and is now living in Germany.
This experience may evoke strong emotions and sensitivity, particularly for younger audiences.
