Calibre Companion (CC)

Recommended by calibre developers, Calibre Companion is a versatile application that combines three essential functions:

  • A superb device-based calibre library organizer

  • A high-performance WiFi-based calibre device emulator

  • A calibre content server and cloud provider client (supports Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, and Amazon Cloud Drive)

Features of Calibre Companion

  1. Device-Based Calibre Library Organizer

Once you transfer books to your device using one of the connection methods outlined below, you can:

    • View a book's metadata (author, tags, series, rating, dates, etc.)

    • Sort and group books by their metadata

    • Display book lists by cover or in list format

    • Mark books as read and sync this information with calibre

    • Launch your book reader application to read a book (compatible with most reader apps, excluding Amazon Kindle for Android on non-Fire devices)

  2. WiFi Connection to Calibre

CC can connect to calibre over WiFi, allowing it to be detected as a device. Once connected, you can use calibre to transfer books to and from your device. Calibre automatically updates all the book metadata stored by CC to reflect the latest in your library.

  3. Cloud Provider Connectivity

CC can connect to calibre’s content server or to your cloud provider to browse your library and download books to your device. Supported cloud providers include:

    • Dropbox

    • Box

    • Microsoft OneDrive

    • Calibre libraries on the device or on an SD card

Important Notes

  1. CC is not a reader app. You must install and use one of the many excellent reader apps available.

  2. CC requires calibre version 0.9.02 or later, which can be downloaded from calibre-ebook.com. Some features of CC, such as syncing read information, require newer versions of calibre.

Try Calibre Companion

A free demo version of CC is available in the Google Play store. If you have concerns about compatibility or functionality, we recommend testing the demo version. To download it, visit Multipie and click the button for the demo version (please note that links to Google Play may not work directly here).

Permissions Explanation

  • Allow Wi-Fi multicast reception: This permission is necessary to locate calibre without requiring manual IP address entry.

  • Users with Jellybean (Android 4.1): You may see a permission request for “Test access to protected storage.” This is due to changes in Android regarding SD card access, allowing the app to save books on your external storage.
