Explore the Great Outdoors with OruxMaps


OruxMaps is a versatile application designed for outdoor enthusiasts, offering both online and offline map viewing capabilities. Whether you are hiking, biking, or engaging in any outdoor activity, this app provides a range of features to enhance your experience.



Supported Map Formats


With OruxMaps, you can utilize various map formats, including:



  • GeoPDF from USGS store

  • GeoTIFF maps

  • .ozf2

  • .img Garmin (vectorial, limited support)

  • .mbtiles

  • And more!

Online Map Features


OruxMaps can function as a WMS and WMTS online map viewer. You can also download online maps for offline use; however, please note that not all online map sources are currently downloadable. If you cannot find the download option, consider selecting a different source.


New Feature! The app now includes Mapbox and Google online maps (subscription required).

User Registration


While registering on OruxMaps servers is optional, doing so allows you to store personal information such as:



  • Email account

  • Date of birth

  • Sex

  • Weight

  • Height


This data is securely stored and not shared with any third parties. If you choose to delete your account, all associated data will also be removed from the server.

Multitracking Option


If you wish to use the 'multitracking' feature, the app will prompt you to select contacts with whom you want to share your location. The emails of these contacts will be stored solely for this purpose, and will be deleted upon account deletion.

Device Compatibility


OruxMaps supports multiple external devices, including:



  • External GPS units

  • Heart rate monitors (including Bluetooth Smart 4.0 devices)

  • Bike cadence and speed sensors

  • Bike power meters

  • ANT+ devices (speed, cadence, heart rate, distance, cycle power, temperature)


The app can also monitor tire pressure and temperature, and connect to AIS information systems for nautical sports via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB.

Route Management


Users can view routes and tracks in various formats, including:



  • KML

  • KMZ

  • TCX

  • FIT

  • CSV

  • SHP

  • GPX


Share your location with friends and track their positions on your device. The app includes alerts for waypoints and geofence/exclusion zone alarms with KML/KMZ overlays.

Waypoint Customization


Create and save waypoints with the ability to attach photo, audio, and video extensions. You can also customize waypoint types with your own icons and attach forms for additional information.


Basic support for geocaching is also included.

Track Editing and Searching


OruxMaps offers a track editor tool, allowing you to modify track points by adding, removing, or moving them as needed. You can also search and download tracks from various sources, such as gpsies.com, or create tracks using online services from Graphopper or offline with the Brouter app.

Wear OS Integration


A simple app for Wear OS is included, enabling you to display basic data and a simplified map (note that this is not synchronized with the main device's map).
