Introducing Out Loud: Your Personal Notification Reader

Out Loud enhances your experience by reading your notifications aloud while you're driving, running, or at any time you prefer. The notification reading feature can be enabled on a per-app basis, making it highly customizable for your needs.

Key Features

• Automatic Activation: Turns on/off when headphones are plugged or unplugged, or when a Bluetooth device connects or disconnects.


• Persistent Notification: Option to enable/disable a persistent notification while Out Loud is active.


• Customizable Settings: Choose your TTS engine, language, speech rate, and volume relative to media volume.


• Notification Dialog: Optionally display a dialog with the notification being read, including the app name and/or icon.


• Home Screen Widget: Add a 1x1 or 2x1 widget for easy access and to read current active notifications.


• Screen Conditions: Disable reading when the screen is on and unlocked, or when the device's ringer is silent or vibrate.


• Custom Notification Reading: Choose specific parts of the notification to read, such as ticker text, content text, big text, or a combination.

Advanced Features with Unlocker

• Profiles: Manage groups of enabled apps for different situations and automatically select profiles when headphones or Bluetooth are connected.


• Blacklist: Create a list of words to prevent notifications from being read.


• Whitelist: Define a list of words that must be present for a notification to be read.


• Substitutions: Substitute phrases like "lol" with "ha ha ha" before reading notifications.


• Scheduled Events: Schedule when Out Loud should turn on/off or switch profiles.

To change the on/off state through a broadcast intent, use the following:

Setting Up Tasker Tasks

1. Go to the Tasks tab and tap the "+" button at the bottom of the screen.


2. Give the new task a name, such as "Out Loud On".


3. Tap the "+" button to add an action.


4. Select the "System" category, then "Send Intent".


5. In the Action field, enter com.hillman.out_loud.ON_OFF.


6. In the Data field, enter out_loud://on_off?state=on.


7. Tap the back button to save the task.


8. Tap the play button to test it; it should turn Out Loud on.


9. Repeat for an "Out Loud Off" task, using state=off.
