Overview

This application is designed to rename your photos and videos so that the filenames start with the date of recording. By doing so, you can easily sort your files chronologically, regardless of the recording device used, and even after they have been duplicated or modified.

Background

When trying to view your photos and videos in chronological order within a gallery app, sorting by filename often proves ineffective. This is because photo filenames typically begin with IMG_ or PANO_, while videos start with VID_ or MOV_ (depending on your device). As a result, panoramas and videos are often displayed last.

Sorting by EXIF date taken is not a viable option for videos since they do not contain EXIF data, causing them to appear last (or first) in the list. Additionally, sorting by the filesystem's date modified generally works fine on the original device. However, when files are copied to another device, the new "date modified" will disrupt the original chronological order.

For these reasons, it is advisable to rename your photos and videos using this app before transferring them to another device (smartphone, tablet, or PC), ensuring that all filenames start with the date taken.

• Correct incorrect dates in filenames by adding or subtracting days, hours, minutes, and/or seconds


• Supported file formats include: jpg/jpeg, png, gif, mp4, mov, avi, 3gp


• Write access to external SD cards on Android 5 and newer (and in many cases, also on Android 4.3 and older)
