We all have accounts on social media and are considered virtual activists to some extent. Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms where many Iranians have accounts. Sometimes, there may be a need to delete your Instagram account for various reasons. In such situations, do you know how to delete your Instagram account? Did you know that there is a way to temporarily delete your account in addition to permanently deleting it? If you have decided to delete your Instagram page, take a moment to wait and read the contents of this article. We have explained how to delete an Instagram account from 0 to 100 here.
How to Delete an Instagram Account:
Overall, there are two ways to delete an Instagram account. One is temporary deletion, and the other is permanent deletion. As the name suggests, permanent deletion ensures that your page is permanently removed from Instagram’s servers. On the other hand, temporary deletion allows you to maintain access to your page. Below, we will explain the characteristics of both methods in detail.
Features of Temporary Instagram Page Deletion
- When you deactivate (temporarily delete) your page, you can log back into the page whenever you want.
- Deactivating the page temporarily removes posts, likes, comments, and your activity from Instagram, but they remain on Instagram’s servers. When you reactivate the page, everything comes back.
- Temporarily deleting the page also temporarily removes your username from Instagram. This means that no one can register your username.
Features of Permanent Instagram Page Deletion
- Deleting your Instagram account (permanent page deletion) is an irreversible process.
- Permanently deleting the page will erase all posts, likes, comments, and your activity from Instagram forever.
- Once the account is completely deleted, other users will be able to register your username.
How to Temporarily Delete Your Instagram Page:
Are you not ready to completely forget Instagram yet? In this case, you can temporarily delete the page. Unfortunately, you cannot use the Instagram application to deactivate the page. Therefore, you need to perform the following steps through a computer or mobile browser:
- Open your browser and search for the Instagram login address.
- Log into your account through the Instagram form.
- Click on your profile picture in the top right corner (desktop browser) or bottom left corner (mobile browser) of the browser.
- Go to the Edit profile section in your profile.
- Scroll down the page and click on Temporarily disable my account.
- In the Why are you disabling your account section, select one reason for deleting your account. You cannot deactivate if you do not select an option in this section. (Descriptions of the options in this section are below.)
- Enter your account password in the relevant field and click the Temporarily disable account button.
By following the above steps, your Instagram account will be temporarily deleted. To return to your account, you just need to log back in using your username and password. Please note that you can only deactivate your Instagram account once a week.
How to Permanently Delete Instagram:
As mentioned earlier, deleting your Instagram account ensures that your page is permanently removed. Therefore, if you are ready to permanently delete your Instagram page, open a mobile or computer browser and follow these steps:
- Go to the Instagram website and log into your account through the login form. If you have multiple accounts, make sure you are logged into the page you want to delete.
- Go to the Instagram account deletion link. Unfortunately, there is no easy option to access this page from the Instagram menu, so you need to click that link to go to the account deletion page.
- This page will ask you for a reason for deleting your account. Select a reason from the dropdown menu. At this stage, you must select one reason (the options for this menu are explained below).
- Finally, re-enter your account password and click “Permanently delete my account.”
Once you complete the above steps, your Instagram account information, posts, likes, comments, and messages will be deleted. Of course, Instagram may retain some information from the deleted page for legal purposes for up to 3 months.
Guide to Reasons for Deletion:
During the process of deleting an Instagram account (deactivation and permanent deletion), a page will appear asking for the reason for deletion. The options on this page can be somewhat confusing, so here is an explanation of each option:
- Too busy / Too distracting: Selecting this option informs Instagram that you are busy and cannot use the account.
- Created a second account: Choose this option if you have created another account and no longer need this one.
- Trouble getting started: Use this option if you have any issues using the app for any reason (e.g., disabilities due to aging). Selecting this option will prompt Instagram to suggest reading relevant articles.
- Privacy concerns: You may want to delete your page due to privacy issues. Selecting this option suggests that Instagram will unofficially deactivate your page.
- Concerned about my data: If you are worried about data leaks, select this option.
- Too many ads: If Instagram ads are bothersome, choose this option as your reason for deletion.
- Can’t find people to follow: This option indicates that you have not been able to find people to follow.
- Something else: This option means “other.”
