Objective in the Game: Like all similar games, players travel through various lands, collect gold, and complete quests. In the land of Sprog, a young spirit tries to tame the forest creatures, but they are a bit rebellious. In a poorly designed map, Sproggi steals you and forces you to fulfill its wishes. Later, it admits that it is a kind being and only wants peace in its realm. However, you are still compelled to complete its missions.

Design: The game has two main sections. In one section, you befriend the townsfolk and meet new characters. Here, you learn about the culture of Sproggiwood and discover what your new friends have to say. You can also purchase equipment, weapons, and armor, check what items you already possess, review your mission report, and even decorate your little piece of land. In the other section, players infiltrate the lairs of some forest creatures and try to change their chaotic ways by persuading them. Beware of the gelatinous cubes; each has a different effect when you pull them. Until you learn the best way to avoid their attacks, you’ll find yourself dying more often than surviving.

Gameplay: Players must travel across the land of Sprog to 10 different lairs. In each land, you find its boss and deliver a message from the spirit. You start with a humble farmer, but each time you complete a mission, you unlock a new character, including an archer, warrior, thief, wizard, and many other characters. As you travel between lairs, you acquire weapons, armor, and spells that will assist you in completing your mission. For instance, a vampire’s fork creates a health point upon defeating any bad character. What’s common in this genre is that when you die, you lose everything and must start over. Unlike similar games, however, you can purchase the armor, weapons, and spells you unlock. Therefore, the vampire’s fork you found in one lair will be your starting weapon the next time you enter a lair without any penalties. In each lair, new enemies are introduced, including goatmen, frogs, and gelatinous cubes. These cubes can be your worst enemies; their deadly attacks sometimes inflict more damage than their immortal attacks. One type of attack can freeze you when you pass through the remains of a cube. Another explodes into a fireball upon death, burning everything in its path. Each time you complete a mission, you unlock a new character to play. You can earn good money by replaying lairs with different characters. So don’t forget to return and replay previous stages whenever a new warrior appears.

Pros: I was thrilled with this charming little game. It had all the excellent elements of a classic dungeon crawler, and even if you experience permanent death, you can still purchase items and have them at the start of a mission. If you find this game too easy or too challenging, you can adjust the difficulty level in the settings according to your skill level.

Cons: The price is a bit steep.
